Duties

Help
  • Utilize medical terminology and elementary understanding of anatomy and physiology in order to research entire contents of medical records and to respond to a variety of requests from patients, insurance, legal, social service and other activities.
  • Ability to operate a computer and type labels, forms and brief written materials and to gather information from several electronic systems to produce a complete record.
  • Ability to abstract only information that provides a direct response to the request to maintain efficiency.
  • Assess and resolve customer inquiries and/or complaints promptly to ensure quality customer service is provided.
  • Manage workload distribution and assignments appropriately to ensure steady flow and efficiency, the expeditious handling of priorities, meeting deadlines and adjusting to changes in workload.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service with work that demonstrates experience with HIPAA law and state privacy laws, and local directives pertaining to the release of health care information and disposition of medical records; managing workload distribution and assignments; maintaining medical records in accordance with regulations utilizing terminal digit filing system, preparation of correspondence and summaries of medical records for external and internal requests; and audits medical records documentation for accuracy and completeness.
