Summary

New York Eastern Probation has an opportunity for a Cybercrime Analyst in our Brooklyn Office. The agency is comprised of two divisional offices (Brooklyn and Central Islip, NY), with the Brooklyn location being the headquarter office. The duty station for this position will be in the Brooklyn, New York office with possible travel to the Central Islip location.

Duties

Help

  • Conduct forensic examinations of digital related evidence using established policies, procedures, and precedent techniques. Examination can include, but is not limited to financial, terrorist, and sexually explicit material cases. Confer with the Supervisory Probation Officer about policies and procedures in relation to digital related evidence.
  • Collect and prepare digital evidence for forensic examination.
  • May be required to testify in legal proceedings as to the procedures and methods used to obtain data, as well as to the findings of the examination.
  • Responsible for verification of forensics tools validation.
  • Coordinate the maintenance, security and troubleshooting on all hardware and software for forensic tools.
  • Identify, diagnose, and correct errors and problems.
  • Assist in developing new procedures and policies for the forensic lab.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures and checklists for end users and other technicians.
  • Provide day-to-day systems backups and verify the validity of data.
  • Prepare internet capable devices for monitoring software installation and conducts installation of monitoring software.
  • Conduct regular review of data captured through monitoring software as part of the district's Computer and Internet Monitoring Program.
  • Maintain contact with the forensic community for the purpose of keeping abreast of developments, techniques, and user programs.
  • Recommend hardware, equipment, and software updates.
  • Field work may also be required.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

All applicants considered for the position will be required to undergo a background investigation which includes an FBI fingerprint check, as the position involves handling of confidential or highly sensitive information. The selectee may be appointed provisionally, and retention will depend upon favorable suitability determination of the background investigation.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent required and three years specialized experience.
Specialized experience consists of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience that is in, or closely related to, the work of the position and which has demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties successfully and involves the routine use of automated software and keyboarding for word processing, data entry and report generation.

Education

A Bachelor of Science or Masters Degree in Computer Forensics or Information Technology is preferred.
Familiarity with forensic software and various digital technologies, including mobile phones, tablets, computers, digital storage devices, GPS, and gaming systems. Knowledge of digital intelligence/forensic platforms and ability to provide a detailed, written report of any actions taken and findings.
