About the Position: As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Leader assigned to the Operation Division; River Operations, MSU, you will work under the general supervision of the Quarterboat Utility Operator Lead Foreman who provides guidance and instructions providing standards of quality, quantity, and deadlines.

Help
  • Provide assistance to the supervisor by serving as the point of contact for advice and guidance for all shifts concerning problematic utility system operation and repair matters occurring on the MSU Quarterboats.
  • Serve as a leader of three Utility Systems Repairer Operators on one shift (including 1 XF-10 and 2 XF-09 positions) one Electrician (Marine), XF-11, one Welder, XF-11.
  • Perform the full range of repairs to the quarterboat systems and equipment listed above requiring complete disassembly to diagnose, replace parts, adjust, clean, and otherwise place in operating conditions.

  • Lifting heavy objects weighing up to 40 pounds independently and over 40 pounds with help.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Repairer Operator Leader without more than normal supervision. Duties include: maintaining and operating equipment consisting of power plants, light plants, fire and water pumps, ice producing machines, heating systems, cooking equipment, refrigeration units, water chlorination and filtering systems, plumbing works, and sewage disposal systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The incumbent will be required to lift up to 40 pounds independently and over 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to dirt and grease, noise that cannot be talked above, uncomfortably hot temperature from motors below top deck of barges, fumes and odors. Works in close proximity to running motors and equipment.
