The Accounting Technician will perform reviews and analysis and reconciliation to ensure the integrity of the overall accounting general ledger controls and the accuracy of the ledger balances with the subsidiary records and associated reports, utilizing and interpreting various guidelines contained in accounting manuals, agency regulations, policies, and directives.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Receives, reviews, and assures completeness and compliance of established procedures and availability of funds on obligation documents within systems.
  • Assigns proper accounting entries for documents and verifies documents.
  • Verifies/reviews the financial management system (FMS) reject messages on transactions and determines and re-enters correct accounting coding per established guidelines.
  • Compiles accounting and procurement system receiving reports listing to compare obligation documents to determine correctness, liquidate undelivered orders and establishes payables.
  • Examines daily Processed Reference Listing (PRL), to ensure all transmission data interfaces accordingly.
  • Performs data entry and collaboration with services across the entire hospital network and follow up with internal and external customers.
  • Coordinates and receives telephone calls and interacts with a variety of internal and external individuals to obtain or provide information relating to expenditures, financial concerns, and other accounting issues.
  • Serves as primary agent cashier, authorized to advance funds to alternates or sub-cashiers.
  • Reviews and executes billing statements, purchase orders, and cash management; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicant(s) meet the following:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) full year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service (GS-5), that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Accounting Technician, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes performing accounting procedures relating to funding, appropriation allotments, obligations and disbursements, and analyzing the interrelationship of accounts; completing procurement transactions and documents, proper accounting coding and account reconciliation; and using various financial management systems and databases. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: Physical demands are of the type that would normally occur in an office environment. Stress levels mount during regularly occurring accounting time frame deadlines - monthly, quarterly, and end-of fiscal year. The majority of time is spent seated. Requires some walking, bending, standing, lifting, and climbing stairs.
