Duties

Help
  • Perform welder duties to include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Oxyacetylene Welding (OAW), Oxygen Arc Cutting (OAC), etc, in various positions.
  • Perform work on steel, stainless steel, aluminum and titanium.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, technical manuals or other guides to develop weld templates and/or fixturing for repair, modification and fabrication.
  • Operate equipment including, but not limited to, band saws, metal shears, metal brakes, and air tools to cut and shape metal as needed.
  • Utilize weld procedures specifications (WPS) to determine correct voltage, amperage, travel speed, electrode type, electrode size, preheat temperature, interpass temperature and all other essential variables to ensure materials are welded correctly.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement dependent on workload requirements.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Incumbent must provide documentation of welder qualification testing to an AWS or ASME code in the following processes: GMAW aluminum plate (3/8" thickness or greater) and GTAW aluminum sheet (1/8" thickness or less).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Minimum Experience Requirement: I have the ability to perform common welding duties. I can use electric, acetylene and/or inert gas to weld metals of various sizes, shapes and thicknesses; interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, jigs, positioning and clamping templates, and laying out work to repair, modify and/or fabricate metal items; determine appropriate welding techniques and machine settings to be used; select proper size and type of electrodes and/or rods.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling and working on elevated platforms. Work may be in cramped and awkward positions. Handles objects weighing up to, and occasionally greater than, 50 pounds while setting up and performing work.
  • Working Conditions: Will be required to work indoors and outdoors in the elements. Indoor work will be performed on concrete floors. Travel to temporary duty locations may be required. Work areas may be dirty, smoky and noisy with constant exposure to odors and fumes. Workers are subject to the typical discomforts associated with personal protective equipment to prevent smoke inhalation, burns, cuts, eye injuries and bruises.
