Duties

Help
  • Plans daily weekly and monthly work schedules and sequences of operations for subordinates.
  • Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
  • Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise.
  • Investigates work related problems, (e.g. low productivity, etc) to identify causes; implements those corrective actions that can be taken within the limits of the incumbent's authority.
  • Develops performance standards, counsel's employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals.
  • Determines materials and supplies needed to accomplish normal upkeep, repairs and upgrades to existing structures, and planned projects for new structures, replacement structures, or grounds improvements.
  • Trains employees on safe work practices and the use of protective clothing and equipment.
  • Ensures that current information is provided to all employees regarding hazardous materials in the work environment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including tasks including motor vehicle operation. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Employee frequently works from stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools.
  • Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places, and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to temperature extremes, drafts, dust, and dirt. Worker may be exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electric shock, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles, and other equipment as required. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment.
