Duties

Help
  • Determine most efficient and economical rates and routes for the movement of freight, to include ammunition and explosives, safely all over the world to non-recurring points, ports, or foreign destinations for Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA).
  • Perform the more difficult and complex classification, routing, and rating of shipments.
  • Frequently classifies items for which no readily available guidelines exist.
  • Select the mode of transportation best suited to the peculiar characteristics of the lading to be shipped.
  • Determine the carrier and compares costs in order to select the most efficient, economical, or expeditious method of shipment (motor, rail, freight forwarder and/or air shipment) of explosives and inert materials.
  • Independently carries out program planning, program evaluation, and technical advisory assignments that require technical solutions to specific traffic management questions, problems, and projects.
  • Evaluate discrepancy reports to identify trouble spots and make recommendations for improvements and to avoid future difficulty

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

This position is under the Acquisition Demonstration Project. The NH-02 broadband incorporates former (GS equivalents) GS-05 step 1 through GS-11 step 10 grade levels and salary levels.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the NH-01 grade level, which includes assisting with transportation/movement of materials under a traffic management program; OR assisting with duties such as gathering information or creates shipping labels, reports, Commercial Bills of Ladings (CBL) in automated system ensuring accuracy. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-01).

OR

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.

OR

Certification: Possession of a certificate as Certified Member, American Society of Transportation and Logistics.

Education
