Duties

Help
  • Conduct visual examination and/or operation to determine type of repair.
  • Perform masonry work such as maintenance, repair and construction of building structures.
  • Operate snow removal equipment to clear assigned areas of operation.
  • Repair roofs by replacing shingles, sheeting or composition roofing.
  • Maintain building records and files for the organization.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must possess or be able to have or obtain a government motor vehicle operator's permit.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Must be able to lift up from 40 lbs. during normal operations.
  • Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).
  • This position may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage in the evenings, weekends, holidays and other situations due to is a mission essential.
  • This position requires the use of safety clothing or gear such as safety glasses, safety shoes, or hearing protection.
  • This is a mission essential position may require reporting to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation in the event of severe weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  • Must be willing to accept a term appointment.
  • Must be willing to complete one year trial period.

Qualifications

This is a term position not to exceed 13 months. Term positions may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years, and MAY NOT be converted to permanent.

Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform common Maintenance Worker tasks, such as: maintaining repairs of facilities that include roofing, plumbing, painting, carpentry and cement work. I can operate maintenance power tools or equipment. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and occasionally work in uncomfortable positions for short periods of time. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up material that weighs 15 pounds and occasionally handles material and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over.
  • Working Conditions: Work assignments are conducted both inside and outside and the employee is subject to cuts and bruises and occasional falls. Unpleasant odors may be encountered from various working environments. The employee is required to wear appropriate safety clothing.
