Duties

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to:

  • Primary duties of this position are the maintenance and repair of all primary electrical service, secondary circuits and controls, service equipment, emergency generators, lighting systems, all electrical equipment, using meters, monitoring devices and special tools, according to the requirements of the national electric code.
  • Performs all electrical and allied work required or expected of a journeyman electrician.
  • The work at this grade involves installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • The incumbent must work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
  • Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections, and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures,
    transformers, and other electrical devices, including electrical service entrances.
  • Must have a greater knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are
    installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations.
  • The incumbent must also have greater skill than Grade 8-electrical workers in planning and laying out work, tracing hard
    to locate defects or problems, and completing repairs and installations without technical advice.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Work assignments require moderate to heavy physical effort. Must work from ladders in high
places, in manholes, and is on feet most of the time. ls subject to hazardous conditions of the electrical trade, such as electrical shock or bums.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
