Duties

Help
  • Plan and coordinate work requirements to maintain patient care buildings.
  • Oversee maintenance services performed by contractors to ensure performance of complex systems, such as dental air compressors.
  • Monitor cleaning services to ensure aseptic procedures are conducted in support of emergency care, minor ambulatory surgery, and clinic-wide infection control.
  • Manage preventive maintenance, repair, and construction work to sustain safe and reliable operation of the clinic, equipment, and utilities while minimizing disruption of health care services.
  • Conduct diagnostic inspection of facility structures, related electrical and mechanical systems and equipment, and prepare necessary inspection reports and narrative assessments of facility conditions.
  • Manage an annual operating budget that requires modifications, additions for new equipment site preparation, and service modifications, while preventing waste.
  • Prepare performance work statements to identify deficient service contract or civil engineer performance, assess operational impacts, and initiate timely corrective action.
  • Establish secure procedures and locations for identifying, containing, storing, transferring, and disposing of regulated medical waste and hazardous materials.
  • Direct fire and safety programs to manage medical and fire safety risks, provide Life Safety Code compliance and protective measures to ensure appropriate response of systems and people.

  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position serves “on call” and may be required to be available after duty hours when problems arise. The incumbent is subject to call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting quality assurance surveillance of facilities, equipment, or services to initiate change, repair, or modifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
