This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District, Engineering and Construction Division, Design Branch as the Technical Design Section Chief.

Duties

Help
  • Direct the accomplishment of analyses, design studies, layouts, and designs on features for navigation, flood control, vertical construction and related projects.
  • Provide technical advice on structural, electrical and mechanical engineering design and supervisor design computations.
  • Plan and assign work of subordinates, set and adjust short term priorities and prepares schedule for work completion.
  • Evaluate work performances and counsels employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Coordinate development of structural, mechanical, and electrical designs and drawings required for projects.
  • Oversee development of designs, plans and specifications for difficult mechanical and electrical systems containing unusual features.
  • Advise others concerning electrical and mechanical design problems.
  • Function as an authority on structural, electrical, mechanical engineering and architectural design matters within the agency.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes supervisor of subordinates, technical expert on design features of navigation, flood control, vertical construction, and related projects; reviews drawings, engineering quantity estimates, and technical specifications; assign work depending on priority, difficulty of work and capability of employee; oversee development of designs, plans and specifications for difficult mechanical and electrical systems; prepare estimates for inclusion in project work; functions as authority on structural, electrical, mechanical engineering and architectural design matters.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS-12)
