Help

The Fee Basis Speech Language Pathologist will use a wide range of knowledge and skills in applying theories, principles, and methodologies in the practice of speech-language pathology to treat Veterans with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders to a wide range of populations. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service

Major Responsibilities:
The Fee Basis Speech Language Pathologist will be performing and/or responsible for the following functions:

  1. Complete clinical swallow evaluations
  2. Complete instrumental swallow studies as needed
  3. Plan and implement swallowing treatment interventions as needed
  4. Enter consult results and progress notes in the electronic medical record
  5. Notify provider of assessment results and recommendations


Work Schedule: Fee Basis;One day per weekend, 2-3 weekends per month, discuss specifics during interview
Rates: Compensation will be based on the procedure performed: $100 per Level 1 Procedures and $200 per Level 2 Procedures
Salary cap: $15,000 per calendar year

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
  • Education and Experience.
    • A master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university and one year of professional experience directly related to the position. OR
    • A doctoral degree in speech-language pathology, communication disorders and sciences or a related field, from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure. Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency. Fee Basis Speech Language Pathologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with Chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.

Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 pounds); light carrying (under 15 pounds); straight pulling (2 hours); reaching above shoulder; walking (2 hours); long hours of standing; repeated bending (2 hours); near vision corrected to 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in on eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; and hearing (aid permitted).

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the basic requirements, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
  • Skill in applying principles and techniques of diagnosis and treatment associated with contemporary speech-language pathology following evidence-based practice for adult patients exhibiting the full range of speech to the full range of patient populations.
  • Skill in administering and interpreting instrumental swallowing evaluations.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of clinical outcomes and adapt clinical procedures and techniques to accommodate unique patient conditions.
