Help
  • Install, repair, maintain, and test various types of Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) such as catenary (umbrella), grid with lightning rods, compression connectors, and connections to ground plates.
  • Work alone or as a member of a work crew at a work site which involves construction, alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures.
  • Install, modify, and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
  • Install, modify, repair, troubleshoot, test and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment.
  • Repair or replace metal gutters, downspouts, flashing, valleys, and stovepipes.
  • Install assemblies or components by bolting, riveting, screwing, or soldering.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Employee is required to be on a a call out list and be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations or make emergency repairs.
  • Employee will handle hazardous waste and must successfully complete training in hazardous waste management procedures within six (6) months after appointment to this position.
  • Employee will occasionally be required to work with and around asbestos materials.
  • Incumbent is required to occasionally wear a respirator equipped for the type of asbestos being exposed to.
  • Employee is required to receive and wear other protective clothing as required by TEAD-4 385-15.
  • Employee will occasionally be required to operate engineer or motor vehicle equipment such as a backhoe, front-end loader, dump truck, etc.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision.
1) Pipefitting installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems;
2) Carpentry duties such as setting up and operated a wide variety of wood working machines and tools,
3) Assembling items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, and biscuits; Electrical duties such as determining the proper gauges, sizes.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where systems and equipment are located. Works in hard to reach places, stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 45 pounds in the performance of assigned duties. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh over 45 pounds with assistance.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside or outside; and subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. Exposed to dirt, grease, noise, odor, smoke, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and electrical shock. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of this job.
