Duties

Help
  • Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to include handling and moving of Museum and historic properties, including paintings, uniforms, weapons, from storage areas to exhibition areas
  • Perform a variety of custodial duties to include but not limited to: scrubbing and waxing floors, vacuuming rugs, cleaning and restocking latrines, shovels snow, sweeps and polices areas.
  • Assist in security duties and crowd control to protect valuable exhibits and building/site contents.
  • Answers visitor inquiries and controls large groups of visitors when the occasion demands.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license in one of the 50 U.S. states to operate a government vehicle.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Laborer duties; relocating, lifting furniture, fixtures, and equipment and installing museum exhibits; laborer duties to include scrubbing and waxing floors, vacuuming rugs, cleaning and restocking, shovels snow, sweeps and polices areas. Application of crowd control, answers visitors questions and facilitate building security. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort - The duties involve the movement/handling of equipment and furniture which require heavy physical effort in lifting, moving objects weighing over 50 pounds. Assistance is provided for objects over 50 pounds. The duties involved in protecting the Museum from damage by exercising crowd control involve continuous standing and walking. Subject to injury when lifting or moving furniture, exhibits and display cases or while using tools during installation, repairs, maintenance work. Exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning assignments, irritation from the use of hot/cold water, cleaning compounds, solutions and detergents.
  • Work Conditions - In the Museum, work is performed inside with adequate heat, lighting and ventilation.
