This job opportunity is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, position description D0483000, within the AASF of the New Jersey National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position.

This vacancy announcement is for a Dual-Status Technician position which requires active membership in the New Jersey National Guard (uniformed military service). Official appointment is not effective until membership within the New Jersey National Guard is confirmed by the gaining Human Resources Office.

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-10, you will:

  • Participate in various types of readiness evaluations
  • Perform inspection, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft
  • Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned aircraft utilizing various testing equipment
  • Observe and ensure compliance with standard procedures and applicable technical publications
  • Provide data for aircraft maintenance historical records maintenance data, collection, and man-hour accounting
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: E-3 to E8

Compatible Military Assignments: 15B, 15D, 15G, 15H, 15R, 15S, 15T, 15U Selectee has two (2) years to obtain required MOS


Additional Employment Requirements:

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service

Qualifications

General Experience:
Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Specialized Experience:
Have at least 12 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, and troubleshooting in the following areas:

  • Testing various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft
  • Coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion
  • Ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container

Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance within 1(One) Year of appointment.
