Duties

Help

Verifies authorization of drivers and vehicles in parking areas under SAA jurisdiction; routinely checks parked vehicles to ensure security compliance with parking rules. Provides customer service to Congressional permit holders. Monitors and patrols parking areas to ensure vehicle security; Reports unusual/suspicious vehicles, persons, or activities to a Lead, Supervisor, and/or Capitol Police. Performs requested vehicle jump starts; AAA trained to unlock vehicles when keys are locked inside. Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Regularly fills in for Administrative Specialists and Permit Issuance Specialist; performs duties including but not limited to: issuing permits, answering phones, sending and receiving emails, processing TranSAAct requests, data entry, issuing Senate plates and placards.
  • Fills in for Enforcement Specialists as needed.
  • Schedule adjustment may be required.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Ability to obtain a Segway operator certification.
  • Ability to safely drive vehicles in close confinement with skill and visual acuity.
  • Ability to proficiently drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Congressional staff regarding parking of vehicles.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn basic computer skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with at least two years licensed driving experience; good driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • Ability to operate moderate to large machinery.
  • Outdoors.

Education

High school Diploma or GED.
