Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is managing diverse year-round Outdoor Adventure Programs for Outdoor Recreation.

Under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Director, develops, organizes, and implements a range of diverse year-round Outdoor Adventure Programs (OAP) that focus on, but are not limited to: backpacking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, sky diving, shopping outings, sightseeing tours, or other OAP activities. Maintains equipment and performs scheduled basic preventative maintenance of equipment to be used in the OAP. Plans and organizes special events as assigned by the Outdoor Recreation Director. Provides instruction to participants in the use of equipment and directs participation in scheduled recreational activities and programs. Recommends programs and creates an annual calendar of events for final approval. Performs administrative tasks such as preparing after actions reports, compiling and responding to customer critiques and comments and collecting data to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. Provides a weekly activity report to the supervisor detailing participation, expenditures and revenue of individual programs. Solicits and trains volunteers as instructed in the aspects of conducting assigned outdoor adventure programs. Coordinates on-site educational and recreational programs as assigned. This position acts as a guide and leads groups on planned outings. During program activities or events, maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of assigned patrons. Operates a 13-15 passenger van with trailer to transport customers for scheduled trips/tours. Coordinates on all marketing of scheduled programs/events to include the use of internal social media. Position will include responsibility of Air Force Services Center sponsored programs such as Recharge 4 Resiliency (R4R). Performs other duties as required.

  • This position has a physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess nationally recognized certification in basic first aid training, and CPR training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Formal education will include an associate's degree or higher in recreation or related field or 3 years of managing/assisting an OAP program and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational equipment, rules and procedures. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must have a current nationally recognized certification in basic first aid training and CPR but prefer Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid. Must hold at least one certification in either Swift Water Rescue, ACA - Standup Paddleboarding or Kayak Guide or must be able to obtain ACA -SUP or Kayaking within 6 months of employment.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
