About the Position: The incumbent of this position serves as Public Safety Dispatcher (Office Automation) for the US Army Installation Management Command, in the Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Protection and Prevention Division Communications Branch in Fort Carson Colorado.
Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of emergency calls, to include installation fire, police, ambulance service, emergency medical dispatch, and Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System.
Provides emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the Priority Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatcher system.
Identifies the nature of emergency, level of response required, and provides this and any additional information to the responding units.
Employee initiates an immediate, appropriate emergency response and provides the caller with advanced life support.
Monitors and logs status and availability of police, fire and medical first responders to assure appropriate response are made.
Maintains an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
Incumbent must be a qualified typist. (40 wpm).
Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
Within 16 weeks from the date of employment, the incumbent will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines equipment.
The use of E911, computer aided dispatch, Land Mobile Radio, and station alerting software and equipment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) operating automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment; AND (2) questioning callers to determine problems and nature of calls to respond with appropriate emergency personnel/equipment; AND (3) accomplishing several tasks at one time such as operating radios, telephones, and typing; AND (4) communicating effectively with police, fire, or medical personnel during emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
