Duties

Help
  • Plan weekly distribution of work through automated systems and distributes work orders as necessary.
  • Ensure all work materials and/or equipment have been ordered and available for use.
  • Coordinate with the General Foreman to provide tradesmen as needed to supplement repair/emergency response crews.
  • Perform tasks in connection with maintenance, repair or replacement of equipment, and/or wooden and masonry structures.
  • Use templates, jigs, blueprints and/or other guides to repair, modify, and or fabricate metal items.
  • Accomplish precision positioning of loads with crane.
  • Perform fabrication using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes.
  • Perform tasks in connection with maintenance, repair or replacement of equipment, and/or wooden and masonry structures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-employment physical is required; and, additional follow-up physical exams are required every two (2) years.
  • Within 12 months of appointment must complete: a. Qualified Rigger Training, b. Signal Person Training, c. Load Handling Equipment (LHE) trainee training which includes 24 hours classroom training and 8 hours refresher training every two years.
  • Within 24 months of appointment the incumbent must complete LHE Qualified Operator Training on Class 1 Equipment.
  • Must be trained, tested and licensed to operate small watercraft in accordance with Corps of Engineers' policy and other applicable regulations.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a drug testing requirement document, a Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Travel may be required up to 30% of the time.
  • Drives a personal or government vehicle (passenger or small pick-up) to travel to and from site visits. Travels on public roads and highways in all kinds of weather.
  • Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Maintenance and Operations Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I am a skilled in leading groups to efficiently complete repairs and conduct maintenance of constructions activities. I have the ability to demonstrate, instruct, and review proper work methods to a work crew, which includes crane operating. I am familiar with fabrication of metals and can apply skill in making difficult, precise fittings, and adjustments to moving parts of close tolerances - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stretching, climbing and crouching. Frequently, lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Objects weighing over 50 pounds are lifted by equipment or with the assistance of other workers. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in installing, repairing, operating or testing equipment in spaces such as manholes, machinery recesses, lock walls or on overhead structures; climbs ladders, scaffolding and works from suspended stages.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during the day and night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high voltage electrical equipment, on scaffold and staging. Often the work will be behind bulkheads below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury or discomfort and when inside, exposure to drafts, changing temperatures and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as protective ear devises, hard hats, hard toe shoes, eye protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses and protective clothing.

Minutes from the world famous Gateway Arch; St. Louis Zoo and many other attractions. Lambert International Airport and Amtrak are within close proximity. Employees live in various locations in Missouri and Illinois. Commuting times vary, but are generally no more than 45 minutes one way. Transportation subsidies are available for mass transit users.
