Duties

Help
  • Responsible for performing welding, electronics, carpentry, painting and equipment operation duties.
  • Utilize a variety of electric resistance welding methods and equipment, perform manual welding processes, and determine welding techniques and machine settings.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic targets, tower control operating computers and electronic equipment related to range maintenance.
  • Maintain, repair, modify and overhaul a variety of Army issue and commercial targetry training devices.
  • Fabricate a variety of range related equipment.
  • Install, repair and maintain wooden and metal structures.
  • Paint and/or stencil various structures and items used on ranges.
  • Operate motor vehicle, engineering equipment and grounds maintenance equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 10%.
  • This position requires a drug test. This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker~ without more than normal supervision. Maintaining a variety of commercial target training devices such as very high frequency transmitters and receivers, remote cameras, target interface unit, battery and solar charging systems, public address sound equipment, intercom equipment, and other related electronic equipment of similar complexity; performing scheduled maintenance inspections and necessary repairs, improvements and modifications to range electronic targets and equipment; utilizing jigs and fixtures to clamp, assemble and setup parts to be welded; stirring and applying various premixed coating materials according to specific instructions; operating motor vehicles, heavy engineering equipment and grounds maintenance equipment such as power lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaws, and weed wickers to maintain range facilities. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee is regularly required to lift and carry target mechanisms weighing up to 95 pounds. The work also requires frequent bending, stooping, and working in cramped or awkward positions.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in and out of doors in all types of weather conditions. There is frequent requirements for standing on concrete floors and working on remote ranges and rough terrain. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, abrasions, burns, and electrical shocks. While operating a motor vehicle, there is danger of accidents and severe injury. Work will be in the shop, small arms impact areas or potential UXO areas. Duties involve working with or in close proximity to explosive or incendiary material in an environment where there is close proximity to unexploded ordnance. The work involves frequent exposure to foul weather conditions.
