Duties

Help
  • Monitor construction progress to completion in order to verify construction and installation is in accordance with good engineering and construction practice.
  • Inspect work areas to ensure contractor compliance with safety requirements and accident prevention plan.
  • Perform contract quality assurance.
  • Review construction project plans and specifications to ensure they meet predetermined project milestones.
  • Monitor contractor inspection program.
  • Advise contractors of operating procedures to avoid incident reporting and claims.
  • Issue daily project reports with construction issues and corrective actions.
  • Correspond with engineers and other personnel to coordinate events and inspections.
  • Draft construction change orders and independent government estimates.
  • Analyze work site and field measurements to recommend construction change orders.
  • Review incident reports with contractors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience
One year of specialized experience at the GS-10 level or equivalent which includes: (1) Provides technical review of project plans and specifications to determine bid-ability, constructability, site compatibility and anticipated problems; (2) Oversees work areas to ensure adherence to safety programs; (3) Evaluates contract change orders and cost estimates prepared by others; and/or (4) Negotiates cost of labor, materials, equipment and overhead at issue with contractors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
