Duties

Help

This position will provide administrative support to 3 interesting programs (Endangered Species/Partners for Fish and Wildlife/Environmental Response and Restoration) in 3 separate locations and will serve alongside a committed and cordial team (Additional program information available at: https://www.fws.gov/office/virginia-ecological-services/what-we-do). The Field Office is located in Gloucester, VA (also known as the "Land of the Life Worth Living") which is a semi-rural area with a rural feel and many opportunities for rural living yet is adjacent to several larger cities within commuting distance (https://gloucesterva.gov/tourism).

As a Administrative Support Assistant your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides administrative support to staff which may include travel arrangements, payroll, and personnel actions.
  • Provides administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, property, personnel, and other administrative instruments for staff.
  • Within limits of delegated warranted authority, purchases necessary supplies and services by proper procurement methods.
  • Provides fiscal and administrative assistance to field station personnel related to current policies, procedures, and regulations.

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the Minimum Qualification

Minimum Qualification [GS-06]:

  1. One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes: (1) Using various word processing and spreadsheet software to create document and spreadsheets; (2) Assisting with procurement of services and supplies; (3) Assisting with the preparation/reviewing of travel vouchers; (4) Serving as a timekeeper using an automated timekeeping system; (5) Independently preparing forms, documents, correspondence; and (6) Assisting in the preparation of budgets. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified.
Minimum Qualification [GS-07]:
  1. One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes: (1) Using various word processing and spreadsheet software to create documents and spreadsheets; (2) Purchase supplies and equipment; (3) Preparing travel vouchers and advising on travel regulations and procedures; (4) Budget related duties including tracking budget and financial data; and (5) Preparing and reviewing correspondence and/or reports requiring prescribed formats, proper grammar and spelling. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
