Duties

Help
  • Screens and interviews patients, and performs bio-psychological social evaluations, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling.
  • Expert knowledge of the full range of psychological testing.
  • Expert knowledge of psychodynamics, psychopathology, and therapeutic techniques; ability to analyze clinical assessments of patients; skill in written communication; and skill in oral communication.
  • Conducts therapy, monitors, approves, and documents all treatment planning, and provides advice for case staffing, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling.
  • Participates with other professional staff in providing emergency mental health services on a scheduled, rotating, on-call basis to patients during normal duty hours to include screening patients for appropriateness of psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Executes performance initiatives (PI) through revision of clinical standards and procedures; performs special actions and a variety of program administrative duties; and performs a wide variety of quality management/quality assurance (QM/QA) duties.
  • Oversee and interpret appropriate tests, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to clinical psychology.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to work on-call, evenings, and varying work schedules.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization and Tuberculin testing is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Saving (BLS).
  • If selected, official college or university transcript must be submitted.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position: Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Licensure Requirement: This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently offered by a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 or similar non-government service civilian equivalent, which includes performing psychological evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling services.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure Requirement:
This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently offered by a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

Education
