This is a developmental position with assignments and training directed towards providing the incumbent with the capability of performing the full scope of duties as described in similar higher graded positions. The overall responsibilities of this position are substantially the same as those covered in similar higher graded positions except the incumbent does not have the in-depth knowledge and experience required for the full performance position and will work under closer supervision. As experience is gained and training received, the incumbent is given progressively more responsible assignments directed towards the more senior level positions.
Work assignments are cybersecurity focused and are intended to expose the incumbent to cybersecurity, including, practical application of the principles, concepts, work processes, methods, techniques, regulations, reference materials, and procedures fundamental to the Information Security (INFOSEC) and cybersecurity field.
The incumbent receives on-the-job training in selected assignments, intended to develop the knowledge and skills of the cybersecurity/IT field. Emphasis is on cybersecurity and IT security in order to acquire a basic understanding of the IT security environment. Training assignments introduce the incumbent to principles, concepts, regulations, and work processes to the foundation of cybersecurity/IT.

GS-03: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.
GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study, 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours.
GS-05: Completion of 4 full academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree, 120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours.
GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate education, determined by school or 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours. OR Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.
GS-09: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours.
GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
