Summary

About the Position: Incumbent serves as team leader and editor for a group of writers for Department of the Army level Civilian Professional Journal. As such, is responsible for the investigation, research, writing, and editing of all the material needed to publish a DA journal as well as coordinate with Sr. military and civilian leaders.

Duties

Help
  • As a Editor (Printed Media), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
  • Acts as lead editor/producer for, an Army Civilian Professional Journal, all AMSC publications, and the AMSC Leader Up podcast.
  • Edits and approves manuscripts prepared by professional journal staff writers.
  • Assures that the material to be published is suitable in terms of coverage, balance, method of expression, and presentation, and adheres to the purpose of the publication.
  • Reviews and analyzes Army publications, reports, initiatives, and guidance impacting the Army Civilian Profession. Develops and initiates subject matter for the Army Civilian Professional Journal and AMSC Leader Up podcast.
  • Edits and approves interview questions and interview transcript of AMSC Leader Up podcast. Ensures podcast recording has legal review and is approved for publication.
  • Identifies problems, initiating, researching, and writing articles, tri-folds, flyers, and information papers; coordinating senior leader interviews and validating technical information.
  • Develops art references to support articles, tri-folds, and flyers; advising on format, layout, and extent of technical detail or art coverage; monitoring art contractor efforts; proofreading and editing final manuscript.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience writing and editing assignments using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, word usage, and using desktop publishing and/or electronic publishing to produce publications in a variety of formats.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
NOTE: All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a TERM appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
  • This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework.
  • This position is not a bargaining unit position.
