About the Position: Serves as the specialist archaeologist in the Regulatory Division. Works under general supervision of the Section Chief, who makes assignments in terms of overall objectives and any limitations on the scope of projects. Incumbent plans and carries out assignments independently.

Help
  • Provides expert advice and consultation on archeological and cultural matters for the Regulatory Program.
  • Develops and updates templates and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides technical review and quality control of key documents by project managers and others, including Memorandums of Agreement and Programmatic Agreements.
  • Serves as primary liaison for the Regulatory Division with Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, State Historic Preservation Officers, and the Advisory Council of Historic Preservation.
  • Directs cultural resource investigations.
  • Formulates and implements training, workshops, and other instruction concerning cultural resources management.
  • Prepares Memoranda of Agreement, Programmatic Agreements, and other such interagency agreements.
  • Performs library research concerning anthropology, archeology and history of sites under study.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Position requires a Selective Placement Factor for:
minimum professional qualifications in archeology are a graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field plus:
1. At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration or management;
2. At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology, and
3. Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.

Specialized experience: I have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting cultural resources investigations such as records and literature searches, archival studies, and fieldwork consisting of reconnaissance and intensive surveys, test excavations, data recovery, excavations, archaeological consultation, and compliance issues as related to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other federal regulations.
