Duties

Help

This position is in the Records Management & Official Files Team of the NIH Executive Secretariat. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform research in electronic and other systems to identify records responsive to FOIA inquiries received by NIH.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to assist in the preparation of records for production in response to FOIA inquiries and other requests for record production and preservation.
  • Review and classify records for retention pursuant to relevant records schedules.
  • Participate in the preparation of records for accession to the National Archives.
  • Review records and analyze and edit related metadata for accuracy and completeness.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this Government Information Specialist, GS-0306 position at the GS-11 level, you must have:

Completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related;
OR
One year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) Researching regulations, case decisions, policies, and procedures to determine whether private, confidential, or proprietary information can be released 2.) Conducting analyses of data related to information requests for the preparation of reports. AND 3.) Serving as liaison to external customers and recipients to clarify and resolve issues.
OR
A combination of post baccalaureate education related to the position and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

In order to qualify for this Government Information Specialist, GS-0306 position at the GS-12 level, you must have:

One year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.) Analyzing requests for the release of potentially sensitive or confidential information; conducting statistical analyses of data related to information requests for the preparation of reports. 2.) Determining costs associated with the collection and release of information to requestors. AND 3.) Redacting releasable records according to policy.
