Duties

Help
  • Reports to the Division Chief of Staff, who reports to the Division Commanding General/Senior Commander.
  • Serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for one of the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Divisions, each a Two-Star Headquarters and a major subordinate command of FORSCOM.
  • Supervises the Division G-Staff, Inspector General, Public Affairs, Staff Judge Advocate, Chaplain, Safety, SHARP, Protocol, Congressional Liaison, CR2I and the administrative staff assigned to the Command Group.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance through the duration of your employment.

  • This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 25% or more of the time.

Your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience involves 1). managing Strategic planning, both long and short-term, to meet organizational objectives to accomplish missions throughout the organization; AND 2) assigning work among personnel to ensure organizational deadlines are met; AND 3). managing civilian HR personnel and hiring actions.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

If selected, you will serve in an important position within the headquarters as the Deputy Chief of Staff for one of the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Divisions, each a Two-Star Headquarters and a major subordinate command of FORSCOM. The 1st Infantry Division consists of 5 active Brigades stationed in the heart of the Flint Hills of Kansas and the division conducts multiple deployments in support of contingency operations throughout the world. You would work directly for the 1ID Chief of Staff; however, your position does not deploy with the division headquarters, but it does provide essential support to those personnel and units that remain at home station. The Deputy Chief of Staff position conducts extensive coordination of special staff actions and develops command policies and guidance to provide recommendations and expert staff advice to the Division Chief of Staff.
