Duties

Help
  • Employee provides independent and collaborative specialty, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services, integrating the art and science of nursing into medical practice.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the initiation, implementation and supervision of treatment plans and education for chronic conditions.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other team members regarding patient management, to include evaluating and revising therapeutic plans.
  • Provides educational management to patients and their families regarding disease processes and diagnostic tests.
  • Provides counseling to patients and their families for prevention of illness and maintenance of health, in order to assist patients in attaining physical, mental, and social well-being.
  • Oversees compliance with the preventive healthcare needs of patients visiting the clinic.
  • Refers high-risk, unstable, or extremely complex patients to the physicians and emergency medicine.
  • Performs emergency care as appropriate

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work.
  • Incumbent required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • Incumbent must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or must be able to pass certification within 6 months of employment.
  • This position requires a CNACI (Childcare Background Check)

Basic Requirements for Physician Assistant:

Education:
Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-13 Experience:
A minimum of one full year of work experience serve as primary health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Physician Assistant; Independently perform direct health care within the field of Primary Care for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients; Assess, plan, evaluate and initiate/modify health plans of acute and chronically ill patients; Perform physical examinations, special physicals, and other related physical examinations on assigned patients; Order laboratory tests, x-rays and other procedures; perform outpatient surgical and non-surgical procedures; write prescriptions; Arrange for Physician consultation when required.
