Duties

Help
  • Prepares complete interior design contract documents which are in compliance with regulatory and project requirements including floor plans, interior elevations, section details, finish and color schedules, and specifications.
  • Technical knowledge for professional design concepts, principles and practices applicable to the full range of duties concerned with planning, design, renovation and construction of the interior features of structures.
  • Responsible for providing leadership to lower graded interior designers and is a technical expert on interior design issues relating to designs prepared by District personnel.
  • Through written communication with project stakeholders develops an interior design program based on user needs, budget, schedule, sustainability, regulatory requirements, durability, and aesthetics.
  • Communication skills to communicate function, cost, schedule, and aesthetic impact of interior activities.
  • Knowledge to program, plan, design, evaluate, coordinate, advise on and administer interior design projects. Knowledgeable in budgetary and scheduling tools and is skilled in using them to administer interior design projects.
  • Maintains technical expertise in various Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software tools including Revit and AutoCAD to develop computer-aided designs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Travel will be to project sites for 1 to 5 days each month.
  • Primary travel is to local projects with occasional (3-10 nights per year) overnight travel required in project support to other COE Districts and training courses.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as “Key” and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • This position requires the submission of an Online Confidential Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE 450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I), Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Disclosure Report, upon entering the position and annually.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Creating and developing complete interior designs, considering agency criteria, function, user needs, building codes, effective use of space planning, aesthetics, and economics; 2. Preparing interior design contract documents using Revit; 3. Resolving interior design problems that arise during design, construction, and furniture installation; and 4. Manage projects to include developing schedules, fee proposals, cost estimates, and evaluating contractors' furniture bid proposals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-insert 11 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
