Duties

Help
  • At GS-12: Designs, develops, and presents analytical models and methods for implementation, performs qualitative and quantitative analysis, and conducts research to support and further SSA’s program integrity initiatives.
  • Performs advanced mathematical analyses, including building and evaluating predictive models to: 1) detect and prevent fraud in the agency’s programs; 2) measure and/or enhance program performance; and 3) increase operational efficiencies
  • Develops, implements, and refines projects and mathematical/statistical studies of SSA programs and develops models to correct deficiencies or improve the efficiency of SSA's processes, operations, and systems related to
  • [CONT] administering the anti-fraud program.
  • Determines methods and approaches to gather and develop required data to complete studies.
  • Analyzes study findings, develops recommendations, and prepares and presents confidential in-depth reports and position papers to management officials regarding analyses of problems.
  • Participates in the development, construction, maintenance, and exploratory data analysis of large datasets as it applies to end product mathematical/statistical analyses.
  • Designs models and methodologies well suited to the analysis of generally stated problems, ascertaining and defining validity of problems and developing appropriate criteria for evaluation in order to achieve
  • [CONT] improved program operations and management systems.
  • Collaborates with other SSA components to assure valid construction of sampling, statistical, and questionnaire techniques; optimal timing; and consistent execution of studies.
  • Develops, reviews, and evaluates program integrity program management information. Applies best practices to develop and maintain reports on program integrity initiatives for executive-level audiences.
  • At GS13: Designs, develops, and presents analytical models and methods for implementation, performs qualitative and quantitative analysis, and conducts research to support and further SSA’s anti-fraud initiatives.
  • Performs advanced mathematical analyses, including building and evaluating predictive models to: 1) detect and prevent fraud in the agency’s programs; 2) measure and/or enhance program performance;

Qualifications

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), to meet this requirement you must have:

A. Degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following:

  • At least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-9, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience experience must include reviewing and summarizing datasets using standard statistical or machine learning analytical techniques and processes. Experience must also include assisting with transforming data into a form suitable for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL; OR drafting research reports or technical papers.; OR
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, if related. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education.; OR
  • Completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education.; OR
  • When combined, graduate education and experience total 100% of the requirements.

The applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include reviewing and summarizing datasets using standard statistical or machine learning analytical techniques and processes. Experience must also include assisting with transforming data into a form suitable for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL; OR preparing research reports, technical papers, guidelines, or instructions.

To qualify for the GS-13: the applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include developing and refining studies involving large datasets and statistical or machine learning analytical techniques and processes. Experience must also include transforming unprocessed, incomplete, or unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL; OR preparing research reports, technical papers, guidelines, or instructions for technical and non-technical audiences.
