Duties

Help

  • Develops, plans, schedules, organizes, administers, and implements outdoor adventure activities for a moderately sized outdoor recreation program.
  • Maintains outdoor recreation facilities and various recreational areas within established Department of the Air Force, Command and base policies and objectives.
  • Ensures activities are designed to fit the needs of the community and conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment and staff support.
  • Demonstrates techniques, instructs participants, conducts events or arranges to contract for instructors.
  • Prepares budgetary information for recreation programs to include transportation costs, supplies, equipment, and instructor fees.
  • Arranges supplies and support services for functions (transportation, facilities, security, and funding).
  • Works with military and family members to establish special interest clubs; acts a liaison to the same.
  • Prepares information papers, pamphlets, and written articles for installation wide circulation publicizing events.
  • Develops and coordinates outdoor recreation volunteer program, ensuring all volunteers as well as outdoor recreation employees have appropriate training and certification.
  • Drives a 15-passenger van on public roads to transport people and equipment on outdoor recreation adventure trips.
  • Maintains records on programs and expenditures.
  • Incumbent shall ensure activities incorporate sound use and conservation of natural resources.
  • Participates in programs and trains participants and volunteers.
  • Publicizes program activities to ensure maximum coverage in attracting and motivating participants.
  • Provides safety orientation to participants prior to taking part in program activities.
  • Maintains responsibility for equipment maintenance, cleanliness and ensures equipment is in safe and working condition.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of Outdoor Recreation activities on a continuing basis through personal contact with participants, volunteers and staff. Recommends changes to supervisor.
  • Establishes working relationships with, and routinely promotes the cooperation and collaboration of local and state recreation organizations, and local environmental agencies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

  • Must have specialized experience that demonstrates ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Experience such as assisting in the planning and execution of an Outdoor Recreation program; or responsibility for a large segment of such a program is considered qualifying.
  • Skill in planning, coordinating, and organizing Outdoor Recreation program activities.
  • Skill in effective management of financial and physical resources and budget preparation.
  • Subject to uncommon tour of duty, shift work, weekends, and holidays.
  • Subject to work outside in local area in mountain terrain and river/ocean areas with variable environmental conditions such as altitude, exposure to elements, and temperature extremes.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to operate a 15-passenger van.

Position is a position of trust. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
