Performs work of broad scope and complexity. Provides the highest organizational level of technical support associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex systems for which the FAA is responsible. Applies broad experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of assigned disciplines and specialties, an understanding of new technologies and methods, and FAA policies and programs.

Work directly supports the objectives of the organization and the safe and continual operation of assigned systems. Contacts are both internal FAA personnel and external. Often represents the organization as a primary technical point of contact on multiple projects, programs, and other work activities to coordinate, implement, obtain information, and resolve issues.

Work is vital to the success of projects that are critical to the safe and continual operation of the NAS, and/or other government agency programs, such as CBP. Instruct, coach, develop employees, and coordinates the activities of contractors. Gather data, prepare presentations, and present finding to FAA personnel and external customers. Uses Microsoft office, Excel, Power Point, and Word to prepare and deliver executive level briefings.

Works with new and existing technology and interacts with less experienced technicians to provide guidance and assist them with obtaining the skills necessary to install, integrate, maintain, and restore complicated systems. Work contributes to the activities of the organizational unit and supports activities that are critical to the safe and continual operation of assigned programs. Serves as a team lead responsible for performing all aspects of maintenance activities, accomplish assigned tasks, or projects to maintain system readiness. Lead teams on projects, CONUS and OCONUS, and serves a project POC for internal and external customers. Will provide on the-job training to less experienced technicians. Communicates effectively with management and team members, leads effectively in a team environment, and collaborates with internal and external customers to meet mission requirements. Exercise sound judgment and integrity, ensures teams adhere to FAA travel policy, and reports any safety or personnel issues to management immediately.

Receives work assignments from supervisor and/or team manager. Assignments are stated in terms of priorities, overall objectives, and scope. Completed assignments are considered technically sound and are reviewed only for general compliance with organizational objectives. Identifies and estimates resources needed to perform assignments. Organizes and assigns resources needed to accomplish work activities within established schedules. Provides guidance to other technicians regarding difficult technical or operational issues. Independently resolves all but unique technical problems. Responsible for oversight regarding planning, scheduling, organizing, and
prioritizing workload for assigned programs. In some cases, this position may need to develop solutions, procedures, and/or work instructions based on previous knowledge or past experiences. Responsible for ensuring all trip reports are accurate and submitted within allotted time.

May be required to travel for the purpose of obtaining and/or providing technical information for resolving various operational problems and corrective maintenance issues. May be required to allocate resources to and participate in a call-out roster in support of FAA or other government agencies, such as CBP, to support field priority requirements.

This position may require involvement with and access to classified materials involving other government agencies, i.e., Customs & Border Protection Law Enforcement systems, projects, programs, files, drawings, and data. The applicant may be required to successfully complete a high-risk security level clearance (Background Investigation).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-I (FG/GS-13) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H (FG/GS-12). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience includes: experience performing installations, maintenance, operation, and testing duties on complex projects or systems, e.g., replacement of system components or facility maintenance across a large geographical area i.e. the Continental United States (CONUS); coordinating complex projects with internal team members and external contacts; reviewing parts of project designs done by others, and written specifications to prevent any possible conflicts with design areas (structural, mechanical, basic electrical, etc.), specifications, or scheduling.

Physical Requirements: You must be able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position without hazard to yourself or others. Selectee must pass a pre-employment physical prior to appointment.
