This opportunity is open to U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals who are Students enrolled on at least a half-time basis, or accepted for enrollment, and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution; have at least a cumulative (overall) 2.0 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale; remain in good academic standing; and be at least 16 years of age.
The Pathways Internship Program combines a temporary opportunity to earn a competitive salary while learning about federal service. Interns gain valuable, résumé-building work experience and opportunities to foster networking relationships. If you are seeking a (technical), (bachelors), or (masters) degree, possess outstanding communication skills and are looking for an opportunity to challenge your teambuilding skills, then this opportunity is for you.
It is anticipated that there will be significant interest in the announcement. As an NTE Intern, your major duties may include:
Provide technical assistance and advice to management and support staff within the organization and external franchise customers on using an automated federal travel system.
Provide customer service to numerous callers daily in a help desk call center environment on travel related questions.
Log, document, and track all calls received using a call tracking software. Respond to routine system inquires submitted via email or phone by internal and external personnel via phone or email.
Maintain the flow of documents in the travel system in a timely manner for processing. This involves running reports from the travel system and sending email reminders to travel planner, travelers, budget reviewers, or approving officials to act on documents awaiting their review.
- All selectees must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
- Provide proof of education (transcripts) prior to the job offer; An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
- This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Eligibility Requirements:
1) You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment as follows:An individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (high school, college (4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate) in a qualifying and accredited educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. 2) GPA: Every semester, candidates must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.
To qualify for the grade GS-05 level, you must meet the following requirements:
A. Education- In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completed 4 full years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. OR B. Experience: You may qualify with one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience must include one of the following:
- Providing general customer service via telephone or other electronic means; OR
- Use of an automated system; OR
- Gather pertinent data, identify problems and recognize solutions. OR
C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
To qualify for the grade GS-04 level, you must meet the following requirements:
A. Education- In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. OR B. Experience: You may qualify with at least one year of general experience which is progressively responsible clerical, office, or work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
If qualifying with experience, the experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
