Duties

Help
  • As a primary specialist and technical authority in one or more systems areas, the incumbent provides authoritative advice and services to key SSA management officials and others on unique or particularly complex systems problems and issues.
  • Assumes full technical responsibility for the formulation, coordination and development of special studies, projects or research work. These are conducted at the request of SSA management or on own initiative.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of activities in functional areas of responsibility. Identifies the need for changes in operation, emphasis, priorities, training or methodologies and makes recommendations to remedy the situation.

To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, applicants must demonstrate the following competencies: must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition, to qualify for the GS-13, applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-12 level in the Federal government that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This IT-related experience must include designing, developing, coordinating efforts, and providing technical guidance in implementing applications to support data administration or enterprise reference data management initiatives.
