Duties

Help

  • Maintains currency with the latest web technology, tools, methods, digital publication manuals, web page template generation, governing standards, and authoring procedural documentation.
  • Ensures that web content is clear, accurate, compelling, and fitting for an organization's role as a federal statistical agency.
  • Supports production and marketing of original digital products like blogs, graphics, infographics and other multimedia.
  • Creates visuals to complement text-based content in social media platforms.
  • Contributes to the organization's digital communications efforts through completing design, development, and maintenance of web content projects.
  • Performs digital outreach and plans campaigns.
  • Assists in defining multimedia project scopes, target audiences, objectives and required resources.
  • Manages projects onsite and virtually in cross collaboration with stakeholders in areas of digital content creation, web and intranet site management and social media messaging.
  • Controls and organizes technical reviews of decisions and approaches, for assigned projects with special emphasis on meeting strategic communication goals, audience engagement, cost, schedule, performance, and risk.
  • Monitors digital analytics and key activities to make recommendations on digital and social media content strategies.
  • Provides digital and social media content expertise and skilled technical assistance to supervisors and team, keeping current with evolving modes of digital communication and effective ways to enhance outreach efforts.

Qualifications

Basic Entry Requirements:
Education:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.
Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Experience:
Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Developing original designs, concepts, and visual styles for web, intranet, and social media sites that present to the public ideas and images.
  • Transforming spoken or written descriptions of issues and ideas into visual representations.
  • Designing and testing new logos, designs, and visual approaches which demonstrate reasonable accuracy on initial attempt.
  • Advising on the technical advantages and disadvantages of various formats, styles, media and methods, suggesting those that best meet the information objectives of each assignment.

  • This position has a duty station of Washington, D.C. The selectee will be required to physically report to the OJP office building at least four (4) days per bi-weekly pay period and may incorporate leave and official travel plans into this reporting requirement. The office director or supervisor may request the selectee's presence in the office more frequently, as determined by the needs of the office. The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
