Duties

Help
  • Perform a variety of complex software engineering, network engineering, integration, implementation and support tasks for computer systems administration, network and information management.
  • Ensure system availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency while resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Serve as a system tester with knowledge of network principles and diagnostic techniques to test, install, configure, integrate and maintain systems.
  • Contribute and work in researching, developing and engineering solutions to satellite communications requirements to meet mission goals while ensuring Department of Defense and Army compliancy guidelines.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the competencies, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service which includes: 1) Working on projects related to the design of small data networks and architectures to meet standard and unique requirements; 2) Designing test plans for testing numerous networking functions, protocols, physical interfaces and products over large and small networks; 3) Installing IT equipment, cabling and peripherals; and 4) Working with agency officials and outside entities in order to solve IT architectural and design issues and system implementation issues.
