Duties

Help
  • Plans and conducts aquatic and riparian inventories and studies; fish population studies, and simple water quality samplings of streams and lakes.
  • Analyzes inventory or study data to prepare for inclusion in study reports.
  • Recommends aquatic and riparian enhancement projects or improvements in survey techniques and evaluation methods.
  • Preforms the following data management: work from outline; check extensive data in field offish habitat condition; record results; make census counts of varies species.
  • Assists in construction or placement of habitat improvement structures, fences, gabions, trash catchers.

Qualifications

GS-5: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: ability to identify fish; assisting in sampling via electroshocking or seining or eDNA; providing support in assessing riparian conditions; assists in data collection and surveys; help compose reports from obtained data and vehicle/UTV maintenance.

Education: You must have successfully complete a four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's that included at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the work of this position.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.

GS-6: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: being capable of identifying large variety of fish species and habitat conditions; assisting in preforming fish surveys; use of hand tools for constructing habitat improvement projects; compile and assemble data for computer input and retrieving reports.

Education: You must have successfully complete graduate level education directly related to the work of this position.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.

GS-7: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: planning and sampling via electroshocking or eDNA; assessing and analyzing riparian conditions and makes recommendations for improvement projects; plan and conduct aquatic/riparian inventories; strategize and carry out water quality sampling, lead crew members as directed.

Education: You must have successfully complete one full year of graduate level education directly related to the work of this position.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the cut-off date of the applicant list to be reviewed.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.

Work Environment: When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Off ice work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.

Education

Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until May 30, 2025.
