Duties

Help

Provides effective and consistent conversion of raw camera files to jpegs with software and postproduction skills to ensure Senate’s imagery achieves set standards. Edits digital images to produce custom photographic prints on a variety of networked and photo printing equipment. Uses photo ordering system to track, manage and complete customer orders. Stays up to date with new image editing technologies and techniques while providing advice to introduce appropriate developments to maintain high standards for imagery postproduction. Performs preventive maintenance on printers. Fulfills duties of Photographer or assists with digital asset management (DAM), as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience with high-volume postproduction of digital photos and prints, preferably in a professional photo lab or professional photographic environment.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the protocol and processes of the Senate.
  • Knowledge of digital photographic imaging principles and procedures.
  • Skill in accurately assessing color, density, saturation, contrast and artistic composition of digital and photographic print images.
  • Skill in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of standard and high-speed digital photo printing equipment, scanners and supporting peripherals, accessories and software.
  • Skill in navigating digital asset management (DAM) system.

College degree or technical training certification in the field of professional photography or related field.

Senate

The Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is the largest in size of staff and budget in the Senate. It is responsible for all Senate computers and technology support services, recording and photographic services, printing and graphics services, and telecommunications services. The SAA also provides assistance to all Senate offices with their staffing, mailing, purchasing, and financial needs. The offices of the SAA that are responsible for providing these and other services include Capitol Facilities, the Operations Division, Customer Relations, Financial Operations, Human Resources, and Information Security. The SAA also shares responsibility for the U.S. Capitol Police, the Senate Page Program, the Senate Office of Training and Development, and the Capitol Telephone Exchange. The Sergeant at Arms is an excepted service agency. Employment with the Sergeant at Arms does not confer the "Competitive Status" that generally results from selection and service in Competitive Service agencies.
