Job Summary
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
As the Network Operations Supervisor, your main responsibilities, alongside your team, involve ensuring the reliability of the House Campus, WAN networks, and House Data Centers. This critical role involves managing the Network Operations Center staff to provide continuous 24x7x365 network operations support. You and your team will be responsible for responding to network alerts and outages, ensuring prompt and efficient responses to real-time issues. Additionally, this position includes overseeing the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), which is tasked with providing emergency communications in accordance with the policies and procedures set by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in the event of a major catastrophe, as directed by the United States Capitol Police (USCP).
The position has day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitoring Network Performance: Continuously monitoring network infrastructure and systems for performance issues or anomalies.
- Alert Handling: Managing and prioritizing alerts generated by network monitoring tools and systems.
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed records and documentation of network configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
- Performance Analysis: Analyzing network data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
- Reporting: Generating regular reports on network performance, incident response times, and other key metrics.
- Collaboration: Coordinating with other IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and problem resolution.
- Performs general day-to-day management and supervision of assigned staff.
- Performs administrative activities including staff meetings, reporting, strategic planning, and project documentation.
- Performs timely completion of individual performance plans and evaluations, training plans, employee coaching and mentoring, and appropriately addressing employee conflicts and disciplinary actions.
- Assigns tasks to subordinates within specific responsibilities and levels of expertise and plans for the timely performance of work accomplished by subordinates; provides technical oversight of work on a continuous basis.
- Interviews candidates for subordinate positions and recommends appointments, promotions, and/or reassignments.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to staff to enhance technical services and capabilities, including offering training, coaching, and counseling to direct reports.
- Ensures procedural documentation is maintained and that change control processes are properly enacted and followed.
- Performs other official duties and special projects as assigned.
