Duties

Help
  • Performs installation, maintenance and repair to inside and outside pipe distribution systems
  • Installs and maintains piping, gages and regulators on industrial equipment
  • Makes hydrostatic tests of pressure vessels and maintains records.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspection and makes necessary repairs to piping systems, reporting time and material used.
  • Works from blueprints and drawings, must lay out patterns for use in fabrication of the above work.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Drivers license.
  • May require a state gas fitter license.
  • May require a 6G welding certification.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment (PPE) (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.)

This position is a TERM position.

  • This position is a 1 year and 1 day.
  • This position may be extended up to a maximum of eight (8) years.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common repairs to inside and outside high pressure and low pressures steam, air and hot water lines, replacing or repairing gauges, strainers, fittings, accessories and sections of pipe.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring positions while on ladders and scaffolds. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 65 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside and in tunnels. The work is dirty, dusty and greasy. There is exposure to fumes, gasses, dangerous liquids from working on degreasers, metal processing vats, acid vats, paint booths, heat; dampness, flying sparks, electrical shock, torch glare and all kinds of weather. There is possibility of cuts, strains, burns and bruises. Wears such protective equipment as hard hat, safety glasses, shoes, rubber gloves, apron, flash field, and goggles Amendment No. 1 to Job No. 14326 29 November 1990 The following is added to Working Conditions of this description: Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.)
