Duties

Help
  • Perform unassisted field level maintenance on heavy mobile equipment, tactical and commercial vehicles.
  • Remove and replace new or rebuilt engines, transmissions, final drives, differentials, transfer cases, power packs and other assemblies designated in technical manuals.
  • Repair unscheduled and scheduled services on heavy duty mobile equipment, tactical and commercial vehicles.
  • Test, repair, disassemble, adjust and replace sub-assemblies as identified in technical manuals.
  • Apply preventive maintenance checks and services on equipment and record on proper documentation as required.

  • Must possess and maintain valid civilian and military driver’s licenses.
  • Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet physical efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Position requires employee to wear protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Utilize a variety of special tools such as torque wrenches, torque multipliers, dial indicators, dynameter, seal installer, compression gauges, and alignment gauges; operate a variety of Government vehicles to include light trucks and other tractor trailers and in-line trucks typically with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or over as required on the installation; and use Automated Supply/Maintenance Management Systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching is required. Sometimes works on top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently carries items weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Required to push, pull, turn and position parts, equipment assemblies, and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions. Shop area is frequently inadequately heated. Works in dirty, greasy, and noisy atmosphere and possibility exists
    for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work positions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes.
