The Security Specialist performs a variety of security tasks in the resilience and security programs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing specialized duties as a security specialist working as a member of a team that plans and conducts all security related training, administration and inspections for the AOC under the Office of the Chief Security Officer.
  • Correlating operational and situational awareness with existing plans and procedures to increase security posture. Coordinates and de-conflict issues, concerns and recommendations for AOC personnel, jurisdictions and the Executive Leadership.
  • Performing inspections, developing inspection reports and systematically following-up on status of corrective actions. Maintains inspection standards and evaluation findings, recommendations and ensures verification and proper implementation of the Security Program. In the absence of the Security Officer, informs the Assistant Director of Resilience and Security of security deficiencies that would affect the security posture of the AOC.
  • Performing tasks associated with safeguarding information and material to ensure the effectiveness of appropriate security systems, devices, procedures and methods. Performs inspections of physical security measures to determine that Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities meet specifications and are adequately maintained. Checks procedures, alarms and electronic access systems to assure conformance with requirements and standards. Provides backup support for operation of the access and badge identification system.
  • Serving as lead for the Agency’s Controlled Unclassified Information program. Duties include planning, scheduling and ensuring training and documentation compliance. Performs periodic reviews and evaluates and reports on findings to OSP management and senior leadership. Responds to inquiries, provides recommendations and performs policy updates as required.

The incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. The incumbent must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Provides or receives training, either on-the-job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Performs other related duties as assigned.

** Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.** This position is considered "essential" for purposes of reporting to work when the facility might otherwise be closed. **

  • A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

To qualify at the GS-12 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: 

  • Applying a wide range of security and resilience policies, procedures, concepts, principles and practices to review, analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems; 
  • Conducting classes and briefings for individuals and groups on operational security topics;
  • Contributing to an organization's security education or training program; and
  • Performing inspections, developing inspection reports and following-up on status of corrective actions.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis

  • Mastery of a wide range of security and resilience policies, procedures, concepts, principles and practices to review, analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems; 
  • Conducting classes and briefings for individuals and groups on operational security topics;
  • Serving as lead for an organization's security education or training program; and
  • Performing inspections, developing inspection reports and following-up on status of corrective actions.
