Summary

This position is in the Economic Research Service (ERS), Information Services Division (ISD), Publishing Services Branch (PBS). The selectee is not required to report to a government office, however, the option to work in one of the Agency offices may be available.

In this position, you will edit manuscripts, produce tables, charts, and camera copies, and assist in the production process for various types of publications.

Duties

Help
  • Copyedits manuscripts and articles, suggesting revisions for clarity and accuracy.
  • Ensures continued movement of documents through the revision and clearance process, including ensuring the accuracy of documents required for the web posting process.
  • Advises researchers on matters of editorial style, format, composition of charts and tables, clearance, and distribution.
  • Writes report summaries, social media content, and other materials as assigned, and obtains necessary clearance of such materials, and coordinates distribution.
  • Prepares publications for dissemination on the Agency's website. Creates, proofreads, and corrects web files in HTML, PDF, GIF, JPEG, and other formats prior to web posting.
  • Carries out administrative tasks, such as coordinating issuance of direct object identifiers for ERS products and maintaining subscriptions and access to the ERS research database.

Qualifications

GS-07
Specialized Experience:Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience suggesting copyedit revisions for clarity and accuracy; compiling information to write reports; and formatting electronic files to be posted online.
OR
Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education, if directly related. Related degrees include Writing, English, Technical Writing, Editing, Journalism, Communications.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described above.
OR
Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and meet the requirements for superior academic achievement based on one of the following: (1) I have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; or (2) I have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) based on the required courses completed in my major field of study, or the required courses in my major completed in the last two years of my undergraduate study; or (3) I ranked in the upper one-third of my graduating class in the college, university or major subdivision; or (4) I am a member of a national honor society (other than a freshman honor society) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience copyediting manuscripts and articles; preparing publications for dissemination on an organization's website; and writing report summaries and other communication materials.
OR
Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, LL.B, or J.D., if related. Related degrees include Writing, English, Technical Writing, Editing, Journalism, Communications.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
