Duties

Help
  • If selected at the WG-08 level, the below responsibilities will be performed in a developmental capacity.
  • Apply a wide variety of operation and repair techniques for mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems and equipment in order to perform repairs, adjustments, maintenance, assembly and disassembly of industrial and/or medical equipment.
  • Modifies new and refurbished ISO shelters and MILVANS in accordance with the customer's statement of work.
  • Checks for loose connections, faulty insulation and other defects to make repairs as needed.
  • Tests electric circuits and equipment to identify defects and extent of repair required.
  • Installs and tests a variety of medical equipment.
  • Prepares shop drawing and parts lists for the use of shop personnel and prepares complete blueprints and plans for customer approval.

  • This position and any future selections from this announcement may be used to fill future vacancies for various shifts located anywhere within DLA Distribution Ogden at Hill Air Force Base, UT.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:

  • WG-08: Performs the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems and equipment in order to determine the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • WG-10: Performs the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems and equipment in order to determine the cause of malfunctions, perform repairs and make adjustments.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing over 45 pounds. Required to stand, kneel, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions when working on shelters and equipment, or when welding. Brief periods of pushing more than 45 pounds is encountered when opening and closing shelters

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily inside of a shop area, on cement floors, and subject to loud noises, paint and solvent fumes, and
contact with grease and dirt. Protective clothing such as safety shoes, hearing protectors, respirators, gloves, aprons and face shields are worn as needed. The possibility of electrical shocks or burns is present in working on and testing electrical systems and when, using electrical tools. Ensures proper disposal of all used or excess materials in accordance with appropriate government regulations. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, observes safety and housekeeping rules, and exercises fire prevention through proper storage of materials and waste.
