  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as a senior advisor providing expert technical backstopping and intellectual leadership for efforts to integrate nutrition considerations into humanitarian assistance and food security strategies and investments
  • Provides expert leadership and promotes collaborative work in nutrition issues globally, by keeping up to date on current research and data and identifying and promoting best practices that contribute significantly to interventions in food aid.
  • Advocates for, educates on, and promotes the linkages among agriculture, climate, nutrition, and health in BHA programming to increase the nutritional and health impacts of agricultural interventions.
  • Collaborates with other technical experts in BHA and more broadly within USAID on linking nutrition programming with agriculture, trade and economic growth, and health.
  • Liaises with food, agriculture, and nutrition experts in cooperating agencies, private voluntary organizations, and regional organizations to ensure real-time learning and sharing of best practice
  • Represents the Nutrition team to interagency, external partners, donors, and internal staff regularly for both programmatic and technical purposes.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements:

TO QUALIFY AT THE GS-14 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants must have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-13 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
  • Applying knowledge of nutrition concepts, principles, and methodologies to a humanitarian assistance and food security programs.
  • Advising on the development and interpretation of nutrition and food assistance programs and practices.
  • Collaborating/liaising with food, agriculture, and nutrition experts (both internal and external) to promote coordination and share best practices.
  • Contributing to program management tasks, such as planning and scheduling; review of budgets; identifying priority issues and objectives; reviewing program goals; and providing technical guidance and support.
Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.

TRANSCRIPTS are required if:
  • This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified.

  • This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.   • This is an excepted service, time-limited, term appointment for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extensions. Excepted service positions do not confer eligibility to be non-competitively converted to competitive status.
  • First time hires to the federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected.
  • Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Any travel, transportation, and relocation expense associated with reporting for duty will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
  • This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week, based upon the duties of the position. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Overseas travel may be required to underdeveloped areas. Some physical hardship may be encountered, such as poor road conditions, unstable political settings, climate extremes, exposure to diseases prevalent in unhealthy environments, and significantly different cultural environments.
