This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Center of Legislative Archives. The incumbent will provide essential daily support to the Center's team of Reference Archivists which entails promptly pulling records, providing accurate refiling services, managing reference and loan documentation, and providing daily delivery and pick-up of records to U.S. Senate House and Representatives Committee Offices to support the daily business needs of the Congress.

Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As an Archives Technician, you will:

  • Process and monitor reproduction orders.
  • Communicate and act as the primary liaison with Congressional offices and other offices within NARA.
  • Gather data, prepare reports and provide general administrative support to the Assistant Director.
  • Pull records utilizing the appropriate forms and procedures without supervision and re-file those records.
  • Check accessioned records for completeness and assist with their placement in the stacks.
  • Deliver and pick up records of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • The position includes a combination of desk work and stack area work. This requires some bending, stooping, and carrying of moderately heavy objects such as boxes of records, under 50 lbs. The incumbent is also responsible for transportation of requested records, which requires use and operation of authorized government vehicles.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:

Communicating and assisting various audiences;

AND

Performing archival functions such as; arrangement, preservation, accessioning, reference and/or loans.
