Duties

Help

Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing media events, including seating, restricted access, security, and lighting, for interviews, press conferences, meetings, quadrennial political conventions and inaugurals, Presidential debates, State of the Union addresses, major Congressional hearings, and related joint sessions or special events. Assists with issuing press credentials and press passes, distributing news releases, and making arrangements for workspace for Congressional press corps. Assists with reviewing membership applications; processes membership dues and maintains membership data files. Answers press and staff inquiries for the Media Gallery. Responds to routine inquiries concerning legislative and public affairs and Senate (and House, where applicable) policies and procedures. Maintains office website and social media accounts. May research legislative issues for media and Senate (and House, where applicable) offices. Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  •  Entry level – one-year relevant experience.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current political events. Skill in the use of personal computers.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and process a variety of reports, records, and documents using standard office equipment and systems such as databases, spreadsheets and word processing software and social media savvy.
  • Ability to provide accurate responses to media inquiries.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records of events.

Working Conditions

  • May sometimes be required to work long hours. Extended periods of standing may be required.
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

Education

Bachelor’s degree.
