Duties

Help
  • Performs surveys and reviews shoaling patterns using Multibeam technology in response to various SWG organizational elements, Ports, and other Federal agency requests.
  • Processes hydrographic survey data to establish or compute parameters for use in making engineering computations associated with yardage estimates and shoaling rates, cross sections, and other related engineering functions.
  • Conducts bathymetric data collection and processing necessary for the production of maps, charts, dredging contracts, and other related products through Multibeam and other hydrographic survey technology.
  • Collects and edits Multibeam data to assure accuracy by performing appropriate overlap checks and comparisons with single beam data and following standardized software processes of quality assurance.
  • Develops maps from the processed survey data by using various software programs.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. The employee occupying this position is not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies based on inclement weather conditions, or other emergency situations, as appropriate.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a State issued Commercial Driver's License within 1 year of employment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Operating multiple hydrographic survey hardware systems to include; multibeam, single beam, and sidescan sonar, with experience performing minor electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on hydrographic equipment. AND 2.) Collecting and processing bathymetric data for object detection, chart creation, or volume calculations. This work must include applying tides, post processing data, and completing quality checks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education
