Help
  • Performs major overhaul and repair of all types of cylinder locks, padlocks, mortise locks, and deadbolt locks for an organization.
  • Improvises trade techniques to adapt locking mechanisms to standard or unique requirements (Such as carpentry experience to modify Doors and Frames).
  • Applies broad knowledge of all characteristics and capabilities of locking devices and their interrelationships with other related items making up a complete security system.
  • Uses key cutting machines, code type and duplicator type and impressions extra key for locks.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Locksmith ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Locksmith Worker tasks such as: Carpentry skills used for installing or aligning door hardware for fit; lubricating and cleaning parts with appropriate lubricants and solvents; using small hand tools to straighten bent parts, smooth burrs and scratches, and replacing defective parts; and perform operational tests on hardware, and/or reinstall locking devices. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds or more. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel and bend for sustained periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, and is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, sawdust, etc. May be required to work outside under bad or inclement weather and other hazardous conditions. Exposed to the possibility of broken bones from falls and is frequently exposed to possibility of cuts and bruises. Required to wear protective equipment (safety boots, gloves, hardhats) to perform duties
